Iogen Energy slashes 150 jobs

Iogen Energy says it will cut 150 jobs from the firm as it shelves plans to build a larger-scale cellulosic ethanol facility in Manitoba. When contacted by OBJ, co-owner Iogen declined to comment on how many of the positions were local. A press release stated the company will continue to employ 110 in Ottawa, which is the company's headquarters and demonstration facility.
"Shell continues to explore multiple pathways to find a commercial solution for the production of advanced biofuels on an industrial scale," Iogen stated.
"(Iogen Energy) plans to expand its line of offerings with new technology for the production of advanced and cellulosic biofuels."
The reason for closing the plant was not stated in the release.
Iogen Energy's joint owners are Iogen and Royal Dutch Shell. Iogen's work spans the industries of grain processing, animal feed, pulp and paper and textiles.
